Ribbon decoration is my favorite technique, which works great on both smaller and larger motifs and adds a special touch or complements various assembled compositions or gingerbread (perníčky) arrangements.
Because I don't use colored icings, appropriately chosen ribbons can add a delicate color accent to gingerbread (perníčky) and emphasize their theme.
The ribbon is either wrapped around the gingerbread shape or threaded through holes in the gingerbread (perníčky).
The essence of this technique is that the ribbon is either wrapped around the gingerbread shape (usually with simple shapes, e.g., star type) or threaded through holes (usually with more complex assembled motifs). Both can be, according to your choice, symmetrical or asymmetrical.
If we want to use this decoration on large smooth gingerbread (e.g., hearts), then small holes need to be punched in them before baking.

The ribbon can dominate the gingerbread shape, and then just discreet additional decoration with icing is sufficient, which beginners can certainly manage. But it can also, conversely, be just a delicate color emphasis of a more demanding Madeira or lace pattern.
On Christmas motifs, you'll achieve an extraordinary effect by combining ribbon and golden marbling.

Tip for you
The quality and color of the ribbon especially determine the result of ribbon decoration; its width in proportion to the size of the gingerbread is also important. It's easiest to work with soft, single-colored satin or chiffon materials with a width of 0.5 or 1 cm.
The coloration is, of course, a matter of taste; it's not necessary to limit it, but keep in mind that not all colors look equally good on gingerbread.
