Now we'll move on to the next part of our gingerbread house: the gables, which are the front and back walls. To achieve a surprisingly rich look, always decorate the back wall of the house more simply.

How to Create Perfect Windows
Besides the roof, the windows are the most prominent feature on the gables. You'll achieve regularity and symmetry when decorating them by working on both simultaneously. Start with the top edge of both, continue with the bottom (or vice versa), and only then finish the rest. This procedure applies to both icing decoration and the free-form lace technique.

Tip for you
For larger gingerbread houses, you can cut out the windows with a small cookie cutter before baking. Then, you can place a piece of lace behind the cut-out windows, which you'll insert after decorating the gable.
