Cutting out the Gingerbread House parts

The foundation for a gingerbread house that holds together beautifully is quality dough. If you're baking a gingerbread house for the first time, I recommend using the Traditional Gingerbread recipe from my Gingerbread Cookbook. In my recipes, you'll also find other doughs that are always specially marked as suitable for 3D baking.

You can buy gingerbread house cookie cutters in various sizes, but you can also use your own stencil just as well. You can easily make one from a thicker piece of cardboard. Simply place it on the rolled-out dough and cut it out with a sharp cutting wheel.

Tip for you

Are you planning a very large gingerbread house? Then roll out the dough directly on the baking sheet and cut out the individual parts there. This way you'll prevent any unwanted deformation and ensure they'll fit together perfectly.
